What is Steppin' Out's costuming division and where did they come from? A little background: Steppin' Out, is a unique rental company that designs and supplies specialty costumes for waiters, bartenders, atmosphere actors, bussers and other personnel that are assigned to work special themed events. The company was founded in 1984 when award winning costume designers, Susan Harrison and Karen Linden, were hired by a famous Los Angeles based party producer to costume an upcoming event for the American Film Market. The event turned out to be a futuristic party for 5,000 guests, with a staff of 275, that needed costuming. After producing 275 incredibly realistic costumes in six weeks time, the costuming division was born. Steppin' Out forms a unique relationship with their customers. "When our company is hired, we become part of the pre-production team, working side-by-side with the décor designer, florist, caterer and other key technical staff," stated Karen Linden, co-owner. "We can either provide costumes from our extensive in-stock inventory or custom design and produce specifically for the event," she added. For each event they are involved with, Steppin' Out offers a unique set of services; custom costumes are transported to the party site and the party staff is personally outfitted by the company to make sure that their demanding quality standards are met and the costumes are a perfect fit for the event. "We love the work and get a great deal of satisfaction watching our work in action and the effect it has on the guests at the function" added partner Sue Harrison." To date, Steppin' Out is the only company which handles all the costumes, make-up, jewelry, hair and wig design on site, a real benefit if final critical adjustments are needed to fine tune costumes before the event kicks off. Steppin' Out has been a popular addition to hundreds of movie premiers, wrap parties, TV show kickoffs, celebrity house parties, corporate events and private banquets throughout the country. The company has designed specialty costumes for such clients as MGM, Paramount, Columbia Pictures, Sony, Universal, Walt Disney Studios, Warner Brothers, ABC, CBS, HBO, MTV, NBC, Comdex, Ford, Exxon, Taco Bell, and many others.
